Overview
Qtv provides consumers with a personalized, integrated television entertainment experience. As illustrated below, Qtv forms the integration point between content providers and TV platforms. It allows content providers to maximize their market reach and OEM's to increase product value by maximizing the content accessible from their products.
Qtv manages the individual user's access to content and content providers. This walled garden approach offers several important advantages:
- Limiting access to reputable Web TV sites to help prevent software attacks on unprotected TV content delivery platforms;
- Maintaining parental controls over access to Internet content; and
- Standardizing the user interface and menus help user's easily browse and search for content.
Qtv is a networked managed solution with a Qtv Backend server and any one of a number of Qtv consumer premise equipment (CPE) solutions. The Qtv Backend server manages the interaction between the content providers, users and the Qtv CPE solution within the home. The Qtv CPE solution generates the Qtv User Interface and manages the delivery of the content to the TV. This architecture gives Qtv significant flexibility in supporting new services, providers and TV platforms.

Currently, Qtv supports the following TV platform solutions:
- Sony PlayStation 2 console.
- Microsoft Media Center/Extender solutions, including a Microsoft X-Box 360 console network connected to a Media Center PC and a Media Center PC in the living room.
- AMD Active TV enabled set-top boxes, including certain European hybrid set-top boxes.
In the future, Qtv will support other game consoles, networked televisions and set-top boxes. It is intended that the Qtv service will adapt to new devices, content distribution models and increased broadband speeds to further expand the consumers entertainment options.
