Personalization
Qtv offers an unprecedented level of personalization. Individual users within a household will have the ability to create a user profile and personalize several aspects of the user interface:
- Web TV Content - Users can select which genres and channels (and the respective content from that Web TV provider) are displayed on the Qtv user interface. Users can also define the order that the content and channels are displayed.
- Favorites - Users can select genres and channels to be their favorites so that the content can be quickly accessed from the individual's home page.
- Local Information - Weather, movies and local events are based on the zip code of the user.
- Keywords - Users can select high interest keywords within each genre to narrow the search results. The keywords are hierarchical. For example, if the user is interested in the Dallas Cowboys football team, the keyword "Cowboys" could be saved as a keyword under Sports/Football menu. "Cowboys" could also be saved as a keyword under the video and movies category to display a list of certain westerns.
- Recommendations - Content recommendations are based on the most viewed or the user's profile.
- Parental Controls - Parents can manage what their kids can watch by setting rating limits, genres and the directories accessible from the Qtv interface. Parents can also establish spending limits for each user.
Users will also have the ability to enter a content code that makes specific content available to that user. This is particularly important as the content choices become more localized. For example, a local high school could make their football games available to the local community by uploading them to a server. By entering a code associated with the high school team, the content will be accessible from the user interface. This also reduces the number of content channels that a consumer must navigate.
Personalization helps create a "sticky" customer as users become accustomed to using the user interface.
